I spill an accent on the new words

With a pen in my hand I scribble it all

Guess their meanings,

Attribute them to something funny,

Apply them on my lips like paint

And oh! Some sound very very familiar

And I need no trowel to dig their meanings

So, I let my mind listen

With a pen in my hand I scribble

Allow my tongue dance to their sounds

I am listening, I am learning,

I am not afraid to wrongly pronounce new words

Might sound funny to the ears that listen, haha

But that too is part of  learning a new language

So, I spill my accent on the new words

On the skin of a new language, the Dutch language

Scrub every atom of flaw off my pronunciations

I am listening

I am writing

I am speaking

Until I perfect it all.
